Well, as you know this blog is more about our club called
HOME and music, but sometimes some such important issues in the world of Second Life occur, that I've decided to keep you informed.
With the latest updates (Server- and Client-side) we all experienced a lot of troubles. Thinking back on the weekend before the last one, when another very nice SL club named The Cue, maintained by our friend 2ndthoughts Brando, opened its doors, people crashed a lot of times and could not even log in. This was a hard start for him for sure.
On the same evening we booked Robot Recreant for
HOME and we were really looking forward to that, because he is a
musician in RL and it is hard to get him.
These days, even if Lindens try to tell us everything is fixed, lots of problems are still in existence. When I was walking around in
HOME I suddenly realized that all turntables were standing still. I thought this maybe is a temporary bug, but it isn't. It is a major bug that occurs right now. The problem got my attention and I did a little bit of research.
First place to look with those problems is definately the
Second Life Jira, which is a bug tracking system for Second Life, where residents can post bugs they figured and those problems are assigned to a Linden so she or he can take care of this.
Crystal clear that there was already a
post about this problem. The Jira system is not too bad if you know what to look for. In case of the non rotating things in-worldwide I knew that it must have something to do with the LSL-Function llTargetOmega which is responsible for rotating things smoothly. The rotation only happens on client side, but the problems occured when Lindens decided to update their physical engine from
Havok1 to Havok 4.
So, if you are a content creator and your problems rely on llTargetOmega - your problem. Most interestingly the bug is already assigned to a Linden employee but they cannot reproduce the error. An error that occurs everywhere in the SL metaverse. All there is to say is: The world stands still - for now.
There are some unsatisfying workarounds for that problem, but it cannot be said that they are working for a longer period of time. If the rezzed object that you own is not rotating and you have rights to copy / modify this object, you can try a shift drag to make a copy. Then the object gets a new unique key and will be rezzed inside the new Havok 4 world.
If you don't have the appropiate rights to do that, you can still take the object back into your inventory and rez it again. This should do the trick, too.
If nothing of the above helps there is are two other things to do:
a) wait until it is fixed
b)
Vote on the Jira system, so that this problem becomes obviously more important to Lindens (this is how it works)
I hope this was not to technical at all. I just wanted to tell ya.
If you think now, oh, what a waste of my time, I came here to read about music and parties, go ahead with
the next article.
Thx for your attention.
